You promised yourself you wouldn’t react that way again
You Can Change the Reaction That Keeps Taking Over

Have you ever had a reaction that felt bigger than the moment called for?
Someone questions your decision, and you immediately feel defensive.
A client doesn’t respond, and you start questioning your value.
Someone uses a certain tone, and suddenly you feel angry, hurt, or dismissed.
Later, you wonder, “Why did that get to me so much?”
Sometimes, what you’re feeling isn’t only about what just happened. It’s also connected to what you’ve experienced before.
There may have been times when you felt hurt, afraid, rejected, or powerless—and didn’t feel able to express or work through those feelings.
You pushed them aside. Kept going. Told yourself it didn’t matter.
But moving on doesn’t always mean the emotional response has changed.
Your mind can learn to associate a tone of voice, a look, or a particular situation with an earlier painful experience. When something similar happens today, that familiar response can activate automatically—before you’ve had time to think.
The situation is new. The feeling is familiar.
You may consciously know that a disagreement doesn’t mean rejection, or that a question about your work isn’t an attack on your worth.
Yet you still feel the urge to defend yourself, shut down, lash out, or pull away.
Not every strong emotion comes from the past. But when the same reaction keeps showing up, it’s worth getting curious about the pattern.
Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with me?” ask, “What am I reacting to—and what meaning am I giving it?”
That awareness is a beginning. The next step is working with the emotional response and the beliefs connected to it, so you have more choice in how you respond.
This is the focus of the Power Switch Process™: identifying the pattern that takes over and changing it, so you can respond with greater calm, clarity, and confidence.
Your power is in being able to choose how you react and respond.
Where is a familiar emotional reaction getting in the way of how you want to lead, communicate, or live?
